# What is two-way sync?

Two-way sync, or bidirectional sync, keeps data consistent between two systems so that a change made in either one is automatically reflected in the other, for example a ticket status updated in a help desk also updating the linked issue in an engineering tool.

## One-way vs two-way sync

| | One-way | Two-way |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Direction | Source → target | Both |
| Edits in target | Overwritten or lost | Synced back |
| Use | Reporting, backups | Live collaboration |

## Challenges

Conflict resolution, field mapping, permissions and rate limits.

## Why it matters for AI

AI agents need current data and must write changes back to the systems people use. DevRev's AirSync is designed for this.
